During the friction of the steel pair, particularly when the dynamic load is high, the
formation of the oxide layers is facilitated. These films cover the facing surfaces and
play an important role in tribological behavior. On the other hand, the increase in
temperature promotes not only oxidation but also the formation of the wear particles
that govern the behavior of friction and wear.
Our study therefore concerns the conditions of formation and rupture of the oxidized
layers. For this, we propose oxidation and rupture models of these oxide films taking
into account the operating conditions of the couple. We also propose a model of
temperature calculation. Tests will be carried out using the existing tribometer at the
Laboratory of Mechanics. Observations and analyzes will be made using techniques
such as optical and electronic microscopes.
