Abstract:
The present research is entitled "Literary translation between literality and
adaptation, the case of the novel "Les chemins qui montent of Mouloud
Feraoun".
Our study consists of highlighting which of the two strategies, namely the
literal translation or the adaptation, is adequate for translating a literary text.
At the beginning of this study we have asked a question about the
translation of literary texts which are considered the most difficult texts to
translate because they comprise linguistic and cultural. The translation of this
genre of texts demands that the translation should master both the source and
target languages besides the cultural component.
Intending to find an answer to this question, our research is divided into
two parts. The first part is theoretical and the second one is practical. The first
part is divided into three sections whereas the second one is divided into two
parts.
