Abstract:
This research is based on the inscription of the land in the rural novels, especially in
the trilogy of Mouloud Feraoun (The land and the blood, The paths that go up and The
son of the poor), Arris of Yamina Méchkra, The devil’s pool of George Sand, The land
and the war of Jacques Chauviré and The land of Emile Zola. It highlights the
mechanism of psychological functioning of rural peoples, in addition to all cultural or
social manifestations, which animate and feed the ethnic scene considerably of their
different significations, insofar as They are established on the ancients’ principles of
consciousness and meant to be a valuable ancestral heritage, strongly linked to the
land, whose monopoly of sovereignty holds the throne in the kingdom of rurality. We
were able, on the basis of a deep and careful reading, to survey a number of revealing
elements whose allusive rationalization inspired us to think and relativize the stakes
involved in the inscription of land which incarnates the psychology of behavior,
attitudes and even of the peasants’ own way of thinking, with a rustic mental order, of
the world and of conceiving both the rules that govern it and the principles on which it
is based. This thinking allowed us to widen the field of our analysis and to argument it
with theories. This doesn’t eliminate the existence of a diversity of facets, which means
aspects that we have observed in the works of our corpus, which have consciously
sparked this reflection. They are the cultural, social, religious, philosophical,
psychological, psychoanalytical, historical and mythical aspects. This diversity has also
granted us the privilege of enjoying a certain opportunity of theoretical interest in
integrating the image attributed to the peasant to a reflection on the influence of race
and origins in a hypothesis where we suppose the presence of the land in the rural
novels, especially those of our corpus, like the consciousness itself which constantly
haunts the thought of the rural people by subjugating them. The fertility of the vast
literary field that has allowed us to carry out our analysis wisely and to bring it to
conclusive results that perfectly meet the need to satisfy the many questions of the
interrogative organ of our problem. It is, in fact, on the basis of the latter that we have
also been able to realize this work and accomplish it without going beyond the scope
of our theme or encountering contradictions. With regard to the methodology, it is on
the basis of a plan previously established with rationality, that we were able to ensure
a coherent progression of development insofar as we proceeded with a logical
reasoning starting from the basic material, which is the rurality that leads to the
reverberation that implies, with a deafening echo, the land in which it is founded and
which maintains its significant solid and welded framework. To conclude, we
emphasize that it is a work, of course, literary, but that was conceived in a scientific
spirit and highlighted by an expression that mixes the scientific and the poetic.
