Abstract:
In general, The search for new natural products with therapeutic properties as one of the main objectives for researchers, in this context we have begun to study phytochemical and biological Algerian medicinal plant which belonging to the family of compositae,
Centaurea Omphalotricha it is a plant endemic to Algeria and Tunisia, which has been little study phytochemical and pharmacological.
The extracts obtained after the step of maceration are subjected to phytochemical screening using different methods of chromatography for separation and purification.
The chloroform fraction of this plant was permitted to isolate and identify fourteen compounds among which a steroid, two monoterpenes, ten sesquiterpene lactones and one flavonoid.
While the ethyl acetate extract gave four compounds among which three flavonoids, two type flavone and one flavonol with another sesquiterpene lactone which has already been separated in the chloroform phase.
All these compounds were isolated for the first time of this species where you can find three compounds of sesquiterpene lactones are described for the first time in the literature.
The structural elucidation of these compounds were determined by modern spectroscopic methods including ultraviolet spectroscopy, the magnetic resonance spectroscopy NMR mono and bidimensional (1H, 13C, DEPT, COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY and ROESY) and mass spectrometry high-resolution ESI (+) and, by comparison with the literature data.
Some sesquiterpene compounds were tested for their cytotoxic activities vis-à-vis human leukemic cell lines HL-60 and U937 and the results have shown that these compounds possess interesting cytotoxic activities.
All of their results, these results show that sesquiterpene lactones are compounds abundant in the genus Centaurea and endowed with anticancer activities are very high and for which good chemotaxonomic markers.
