Abstract:
Knowledge has become the essential engine for any administrative activity
in any institution whatever is its type. It is used by the institution when taking
decisions. This has led to a new concept related to knowledge management
which integrates knowledge in all the missions of the institution. The university
library which offers a service tends to satisfy its users. This necessitates the
presence of competent human resources who endeavours to achieve the library
objectives. This has led us to ask questions about the role of the information
specialist in knowledge management within the university libraries. Identifying
the role of the information specialist through his/ her competence, in the
development of university libraries is one of the most important aspects of this
research.
Knowledge management tends to exploit the new ideas and to encourage
cooperation to assure progress in change. The human resource and the users
constitute an interest in knowledge management.
We have chosen the descriptive approach to realise the study. A
questionnaire has been administered to a sample of 40 librarians working in
Constantine university libraries.
This has helped us to obtain significant results that we analysed in relation to the
established hypotheses. The questionees state that knowledge is a valuable
factor in library management and in achieving its projects. The resources impose
them selves as positive elements in the performance of services which main
source consists essentially of information necessary for library management and
for the execution of its programme under the responsibility of an information
specialist.
The role of knowledge in the development of university libraries and in
reinforcing the information specialist's activity is fundamental within the
university in particular and in society in general. The best information
professionals in future will be those who could change ambiguous and general
data into precise and useful knowledge.
