Abstract:
In this work, we focused on the study of channel drop filters (CDfs) based on the lateral
coupling between waveguides and photonic crystal ring resonators (PCRRs). We proposed
two types of filters; the first one contains a PCRR located between two parallel waveguides.
While the second one includes a PCRR introduced between two perpendicular waveguides.
The properties of these filters are numerically studied using the finite difference method in the
two-dimensional time domain (2D-FDTD). The improvement of the performance of these
components depends on the adjustment of the geometrical parameters of the structure as well
as its modification by the introduction of reflective mirrors.
We then analyzed the effect of different parameters on the characteristics of these filters.
This analysis made it possible to show that a photonic crystal demultiplexer, composed of
several PCRRs coupled to waveguides, can be envisaged.
