Abstract

The research entitled “The Translation of the Arabic Grammatical Terminology into French” in “Ettuhfa Essaniya fi ilm El Arabiya Grammaire Arabe”by “De Sacy” is a contrastive study of Arabic grammatical terms and their translations into French conducted in the framework of specialized translation. The beginnings of Arabic grammar are attributed to the emergence of the phenomenon called « Lahn » (solecism) in early Muslim society. From the events set in train by the spread of Islam and the conversion of foreign speakers, they had to familiarize themselves with their new adopted religion, especially its primary text the Qur’an. Not unexpectedly, their speech was faulty. The occurrence of lahn was viewed with alarm by those who were in a position to do something about it as it represented a dangerous interference in the total veracity of the Qur’an.
