dc.description.abstract |
The aim of the present study is to highlight the importance of comprehension in the process of translation. Hence, it emphasizes the importance of the pre-translation stage. It also highlights the necessity to use the veracious tools and carry out a research on the text and its author, especially when this latter has to do with translation of rhetorical texts. To achieve this end, we conducted an exploratory as well as a descriptive research design. We have administered two texts containing a number of wordplays to be translated for a sample of 20 Translation graduate students (each). The non-probability convenience sampling was the technique used in the study. The results showed that the participants lack the necessary linguistic and extralinguistic knowledge. They do neither adopt the appropriate method nor use the adequate tools. In addition, they did not use the appropriate strategies to render the wordplays. |
