Effets de la corticotherapie sur quelques parametres biochimiques et hematologiques du cheval et du chien

Abstract

This research investigates the dexamethasone effect on some biochemical parameters, on neutrophil/lymphocytes ratio (PN/L) in healthy horses, and on the numbe r of PN in horses with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It focuses also on the effect of methylprednisolone on serum iron concentration in healthy dogs. Serum iron concentration increased significantly on days two and three and serum triglyceride co ncentration enhanced on days one and two after a single dose of dexamethasone (0,048mg/kg, IV). PN/L ratio increased 24 hours later. As for the horses given dexamethasone (0,055mg/kg, IV SID) for four days, the serum iron concentration decreased on days one and two, whereas the serum triglyceride concentration increased on days three and seven. However, the other biochemical parameters did not change in the two experiments. As for dogs, the methylprednisolone given orally at immunosuppressive dose (2mg /kg BID) for seven consecutive days caused a significant increase during the experiment. Finally, the number of neutrophils was unaffected after treating horses affected with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
