"The aim of our study was to compare the analgesic efficacy of two nonsteroidal antiinflammatory
drugs (NSAID) in controlling postoperative pain following ovariectomy in cats. The molecules used
are meloxicam and tolfenamique acid. The efficacy of postoperative analgesia was evaluated on 15
cats over a period of 24 hours, at the end of surgery a dose of a NSAID was administered and the pain
was assessed using the gate 4Avet, by clinical as well as biochemical parameters (glucose and
cortisol). The pain score, blood glucose and cortisol were significantly decreased in both groups
receiving NSAIDs compared to the control group but meloxicam showed an efficiency that lasts up to
24 postoperative hours, while that of the tolfenamic acid is short."
