Abstract:
The present study focused on the phytochemical investigation and the evaluation of the
antioxidant activity of two plants: Anagallis monelli ssp. linifolia (L.) (Primulaceae) and Arenaria
cerastioides (poir.) (Caryophyllaceae). A total of 26 compounds were isolated, including 13 new
saponins, using various chromatographic methods such as TLC, VLC, CC, FCC, PLC, and HPLC. The
structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated using 1D (1H and 13C) and 2D (COSY, HSQC,
HMBC, TOCSY, and ROESY) NMR techniques, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) and by
comparison with literature data, along with measurement of optical rotation [α]D.
The antioxidant activity was evaluated using three methods: DPPH, ABTS, and CUPRAC. The
results showed that the acetate extract of the Arenaria cerastioides species (Far/A) exhibited
excellent antioxidant activity compared to standards BHT and BHA, followed by the acetate extract of
Anagallis monelli ssp. linifolia species (Fan/A).
