dc.description.abstract We were interested in this research work on spelling errors in French in Algerian university students, a subject which remains, despite beliefs, difficult in its internal structure, still difficult because it is the subject of debate and discussion. conflicting positions, difficult finally because it remains the emblem of success or failure in learning to write. We do not pretend to trace all the problems posed by such a difficult subject, we have chosen to describe in a systematic way the errors that students produce and we have tried to determine the causes. We also proposed two questionnaires intended respectively for teachers and university students, the objective of which was to show their opinions vis-à-vis a simplifying reform of French spelling. Do they accept change by adapting to modernity or do they prefer to keep the richness and beauty of the French language? Our objectives were to identify the areas of weakness of the graphic multisystem, to show the impact of the mother tongue of Algerian Arabic-speaking learners on their spelling skills, to verify the influence of change of type of test on the nature of spelling errors among students. and finally to reflect on the methods and programs of teaching French, from the third year of primary to the third year of secondary. Our quantitative and qualitative analysis of dictations and written productions revealed that a fairly large number of errors remain. This has led us on the one hand to deny that the age of students has an impact on orthographic progression and on the other hand, to confirm that increased surveillance in an area of great fragility turns into insecurity that grows The learner, even at an advanced level, to produce hypercorrected forms, rejected by the standard. We were also able to confirm that the complexity of the French language, the discrepancy between the oral and the written side of the language, comes at a great price which is paid for by the length and difficulty of learning. Wouldn't it be fair to simplify it to make it accessible to the whole community, especially foreigners? We believe that information on recent research was used to transform ideas and practices for greater mastery of the language at Algerian University. fr_FR
