Abstract:
Electronic informational supports are an important informational
resource that is the product of the era of information and communication
technology. This latter has imposed its presence in all institutions in our society
including educational, social and economic institutions. University libraries are
also among these entities that should enrich their resources with the new
supports in terms of collection development. Through this improvement, the
university library is supposed to exploit these electronic information resources
which show positive characteristics when offering information services to the
users. The library should also innovate by creating other new information
services that can assure a permanent link between the users and the university
library, so that it will be possible for this institution to be close to the users by
coping with the fierce competition generated by the new electronic libraries and
the specialized libraries. The electronic information supports require from the
university library the establishment of a new management strategy appropriate
to the new electronic collections. The strategy should deal with human and
material resources on the one hand, and with the provision of new information
quality services on the other hand.
Our study attempts to highlight firstly the added-value that can be
provided by electronic information supports in terms of information services
offered by university libraries, and secondly the essential role that can be played
by these electronic supports in reinforcing the library services.
In this research, we have adopted the descriptive approach and have
selected the questionnaire as a tool for selecting data to be able to measure our
assumptions. In the end, the results have shown the major role that can be played
by these electronic information supports to improve the present information
services offered by the Central Library of Batna Hadj Lakhdar University.
