Résumé:
The breast-feeding is the most natural and more adapted way to nourish a child. The superiority of mother's milk compared to cow's milk and the industrial substitutes is widely admitted and summarized in the Anglo-Saxon slogan “breast is best”. In Algeria, available studies show that the practice of breast feeding knew important changes during twenty last years. Our work intend to validate the WHO’s
qu estionnaire, 1985 (which aims to know the prevalence of the practice, and its description) in order to adapt it to the requirements of the field and to the changes of Algerian society. According to the pre investigation that we carried out in the commune of khroub, on 273 mothers of children from 0 to 9 months old, from June 15th to September 9th, 2005, we could establish the necessary modifications to the questionnaire. The modified questionnaire will have to be validated to be used, for that we used the measurement method of reliability, fidelity and sensitivity. The questionnaire validation will allow using it as a description tool on a large scale. Results After modification, the number of items has been decreased from 59 items to 41 (questions removed, answers choices added), while keeping the four shutters evaluation to preserve the framework which had refers for the development of the
WHO’s questionnaire (1985); and thus to allow the comparison with the various
studies and the international standards.
