dc.description.abstract |
The present study deals with low carbon steels containing ( weight %) 0.08%C and 0.12%C. They are produced by Trefisoud – Setif-Algeria as wires of 3.25mm diameter. The first wire (0.08%C) is named 1KP having a grain size of 20µm, while the second (0.12%C ) is called SAE1008 having a grain size of 11µm. The optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM) are used to identify the microstructure of the steels in as received and deformed conditions. The results confirm that the mechanical and structural properties are affected by the chemical composition and the initial grain size of the steel. The iron oxides are found in the steels and their presence is harmful for wiredrawing process. The A1 and A3 temperatures are determined, using dilatometer, for both fine and coarse grained steel. The annealing temperatures have to be below 727°C. The kinetics of primary recrysllization is described by Avrami law and parameters such as n, k, and activation energy are determined. The activation energy of the primary recrysllization is obtained for both the fine and the coarse grained material and also found to vary with the initial grain size. The obtained results of the two wires are compared and discussed. |
