dc.description.abstract The Historical Society of Algeria is one of learned societies created by colonial France, countries of North Africa, for the Exploration of the occupied territories to describe and assess their archaeological, geographical, historical, ethnographic (manners, customs, dialects) ... and literary. The African Journal publishes the results of such research. Its first issue was published in October 1856, she stopped in 1914 (World War) resumed in January 1918 to finalize released in December 1961. The research entitled: "THE AFRICAN REVIEW 1856-1961: bibliometric studies. "As is stated in the title a quantitative study of the content of this journal. This study is divided into three parts: Part One: Four tables containing the following information: - The first table is a quantification by volume (volume per year, each volume is a compilation of numbers issued during the year) and gave the year of publication of the volume of the study, the number of articles, number of pages and the numbers that changed after the change of frequency (bimonthly and quarterly). - The second table in articles by topic and the authors and pages that contain these items. - The third picture is somewhat after the second but the nature of the topics is different because they are not contained in the "depth articles. The nature of the information they contain is that they are inserted only where necessary such as Obituaries or party official (named in the magazine), which publishes the minutes of meetings of the board of the Historical Society of Algeria . We do not give the total number of publications and the total number of pages for each item. - The fourth table gives the number of entries per volume. All data contained in these tables are arranged in descending order. The four tables are followed by commentaries explaining their contents. Part two: It contains an analysis of data from the first part and comments supported by historical and economic events of the day to corroborate the results of this analysis. Third part: Devoted to the intellectual authors who contributed to writing articles published throughout the life of this journal. This table is contained in 16 pages because we have neglected none of them even those who have published a single article. It provides in a descending order the number of articles by author and the number of column in which they wrote. A sixth painting is dedicated to calculating the rate of production of authors regarding the total number of articles published in the 102 volumes that constitute the African Journal. Two annexes are attached to three strands. - The first annex is an index of names of authors who cite all authors, titles of articles, year, volume number and pages extremes. We believe that this index is a database identification, comprehensive review of Africa. - The Second Schedule is an index of place names listed in the title of the articles. To find them through the pages of the magazine African we give you the year, the volume number and page where it appears. For two annexes ranking is in descending order, for authors: whoever has the most product to one that has the least product, and for places: the most cited in the month cited. The Bibliometrics is a measurement tool which we use to help comparison and understanding of a number of factors bibliographic after quantified using a mathematical technique and statistics. This science was used in the preparation of this research. Our hope is that we have well used this method and that the product of our efforts and our nights of sleep will effectively researchers who consult the magazine and who need this type of information.
