Abstract

The city of El Khroub faces major challenges in urban organization and management due to its rapid urban growth and strong functional attractiveness, since it began accommodating the population overflow mainly from Constantine city. As one of the main satellite cities of Constantine metropolis, this has led to an unbalanced distribution of facilities and inadequacies in services provided to the population, particularly in densely populated neighborhoods. To address these issues, remote sensing techniques have contributed to the continuous monitoring of the urban fabric. Analysis of accessibility to structural facilities revealed spatial disparities, requiring a reorganization of the urban space for better population coverage. The use of multi-criteria analysis methodology based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) has helped identifying the best locations for future facilities. This research work has resulted in the establishement of a final suitability map of residential areas reflecting the adequacy of service facilities to population volumes. The study also highlighted the importance of community participation and interactive maps in improving the organization and management of the urban space, indicating the need to reorganize urban space to ensure better population coverage and improve life in the city. Therefore, this study can serve as a basis to guide decision-makers and various stakeholders in selecting appropriate sites for implementing comprehensive urban development projects and as a tool for organizing and managing the urban space of El Khroub area.
