Abstract

through our study, we intend to identify the main criteria for the selection of documentry software that should be at the disposal of librarians when choosing one of these software for the management of theire library. This project is, in fact, based on a survey led upon Badji-Mokhtar University libraries taken as a model. We have first defined the cosept of documentry softwar with all the elements that are related to it such as program, document, databasis...Then, we have specified the basic criteria for setting up documentry softwar in terms of financial, material and human resources, program, data...with a broad view on the most important evoling steps crossed by this technique since the emergence of the idea of information automated processing till the appearance of artificial intelligence. A fter that. We have discussed about library automation methods through the conception of a local documentry software or the direct acquisition of the software, if not to rely just on the connection of the library to information structures by means of peripherals. The fourth chapter highlights basically the specification of the main criteria in relation with the selection of the efficient software. The fifth and last chapter portrays the practical study with its five axes including the results of the survey and their anaylsis, in addition to the general result attained in relation with the hypotheses that were confirmed, but with a disparity between the percentages. Thus, we have realized that librarians have the aptitude to specify the major criteria for the selection of efficient software. All that they need in this situation is the provision of a sufficient variety of software at their disposal so that they can choose what is appropriate for them.
